February 22, 2022 marked the 80th anniversary of Archbishop Eduard Profittlich’s martyrdom. This was commemorated with an international conference, held online due to restrictions in the country, but with participants from across Europe. Within the framework of the commemorative year, an exhibition on the life and martyrdom of Eduard Profittlich was prepared, which was displayed at the Tartu Catholic Education Center, Riigikogu (Estonian Parliament), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Pirita Convent.
The historical novel “The Witness” by writer Katrin Laur was published, in which Archbishop Profittlich is one of the characters.
We hereby inform you that the Positio (a comprehensive overview of the Servant of God’s life and martyrdom) has been completed, printed, and submitted to the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints at the Holy See. The relator of the process, Father Szczepan Praśkiewicz O.C.D., has confirmed it and written its foreword. In January, the Positio will be presented to the historical commission. We ask for prayers for this.
Bishop Philippe Jourdan stated in his Advent message that the Archbishop’s burning love for Christ led him to the greatest love: to lay down his life for his friends and for the Catholic Church in Estonia. Let us be eternally grateful to him for this and learn from him. Let us pray through his intercession for our personal needs and for the successful completion of his beatification.
