How to prepare for the beatification?

On September 6, 2025, a historic and special event will take place in Tallinn — the beatification of Archbishop Eduard Profittlich SJ. This is a great joy for the entire Catholic community and for all who appreciate a testimony of faith and faithfulness. Such a day is not just a solemn ceremony, but also a profound spiritual moment for which it is worth preparing.

Jesus Himself says, „apart from me you can do nothing“ (Jn 15:5). Therefore, it is important to open your heart to God’s grace even before September 6.

Pilgrimage and Plenary Indulgence

One of the most beautiful ways to prepare is to participate in a Marian pilgrimage. „Ad Jesum per Mariam“ (To Jesus through Mary) says Catholic tradition.

Pope Benedict XVI has reminded us that among the greatest gifts the Church offers are indulgences and the Sacrament of Penance. One way to prepare could be to obtain a plenary indulgence.

This is possible, for example, on the Marian pilgrimage to Viru-Nigula on August 23, by fulfilling the conditions for obtaining an indulgence: participating in the Sacrament of Confession, receiving Holy Communion, praying for the intentions of the Holy Father, and a complete detachment from sin with all your heart.

Night Vigil before the Most Holy Sacrament

Another profound way to prepare is adoration before the Most Holy Sacrament, for example, at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church on the evening of September 5 until midnight. The Most Holy Sacrament will be exposed so that everyone can come to pray and remain in silence in the Real Presence of Jesus. This is a special time to ask for the intercession of the future blessed for our needs, those of the Church and the world. Silence, reading Sacred Scripture, praying the Rosary, or simply giving thanks for Christ’s love is the best way to prepare to receive the great grace that will take place the following day.

Daily Prayer and Reading of Sacred Scripture

Preparation is not limited to major events. Everyone can take time at home or in the parish for daily prayer. We can read the Holy Scripture, especially the Gospel, or pray by invoking the intercession of Archbishop Eduard Profittlich. His life and martyrdom are a testimony of faith and fidelity that inspire us to live courageously and sincerely.

Communion and Gratitude

September 6th is also a day when the Church’s communion is expressed. When we gather in Freedom Square, we are like one family sharing the same faith and joy, like one soul and one heart (Acts 4:32). So that our hearts may be ready to rejoice with others, it is worthwhile to pray in advance not only for ourselves, but also for all participants — that this day may be filled with peace and fraternal love.

Let us open our hearts to grace

Archbishop Eduard Profittlich gave his life for his fidelity to Christ. His example calls us to prepare not only externally, but above all internally. May our journey until September 6th be filled with reconciliation, prayer, and love. Thus, the day of beatification will become not only a historical moment, but also a day of renewal for our hearts and a deepening of faith.
