Mons. Philippe Jourdan visited Hamburg

Bishop Philippe Jourdan from the Diocese of Tallinn visited the Archdiocese of Hamburg with a small delegation in February 2026. The two dioceses are connected by the life and ministry of Jesuit priest and Arcbishop Eduard Profittlich in Hamburg from 1928-1930. It was a visit to the Archdiocese of Hamburg at the invitation of Archbishop Dr. Stefan Heße.

The itinerary took the guests to various places and events in Northern Germany. The program included the opening of Saint Ansgar Week, a visit to the Lübeck Martyrs Memorial, and a visit to Kiel, a twin city of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.

Archbishop Dr. Stefan Heße expressed his gratitude to Bishop Philippe Jourdan for the visit: “The peoples of the Baltic states urgently need our solidarity, especially now. I hope that this contact will continue and that we can deepen it in the future. The meetings and discussions of Bishop Jourdan’s delegation in our archdiocese also served this purpose,” said Heße.

We hope to develop friendly relations with Hamburg and also preserve the legacy of Blessed Eduard Profittlich in Hamburg. In 2027, a delegation from Hamburg is expected to pay a return visit to map out more precisely bilateral activities between the dioceses.
