This year, several events have taken place in connection with the 80th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Servant of God Archbishop Eduard Profittlich. And we will certainly continue to cover his life and ministry in the near future. Currently, the process for the beatification of the Servant of God in Rome has moved forward.
We hereby inform you that the Positio has been completed. It has been approved and prefaced by the relator of the process, Father Szczepan Praśkiewicz O.C.D., of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. The Positio is also already being published. Subsequently, in 2023, it will be presented to various commissions in the Vatican. There are three commissions: the theological commission, the historical commission, and a college consisting solely of cardinals.
If this stage is successfully completed and the assessment by the commissions is positive, the Positio will then be submitted to the Roman Pontiff for approval.
Currently, it is important that we pray for this stage of beatification, because our prayers can ensure that the Catholic Church in Estonia receives its first Blessed, our intercessor and protector before God.
On October 6, 2022, within the framework of the conference “Holiness Today”, the representative of the Roman Catholic Church, diocesan postulator Dr. Marge-Marie Paas, had the opportunity to meet the Holy Father Pope Francis in the Vatican and present Profittlich’s martyrdom in 1942 in a Soviet prison camp in Kirov. The Holy Father took note of this and remembered his visit to Estonia well.
